Foggy Bottom + West End

NEIGHBORHOOD

Foggy Bottom

Ask what the neighborhood of Foggy Bottom conjures in their minds, they might say culture, as it is the home of the behemoth Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Or, possibly, government and NGOs like Department of State or the World Bank. Another sure bet would be excellence in education as the home of The George Washington University. The Watergate may also be mentioned for both those who like intrigue and scandal.

What also defines Foggy Bottom is its high-end real estate might make the list. Some of the highest price points in Washington DC are found in Foggy Bottom. Why? The neighborhood offers convenience. Its Metro stop and the Circulator bus provide residents with easy transportation choices. A Whole Foods on GWU’s campus (the only Whole Foods on a university campus in the United States) is always jam packed. Plus, easy access to Georgetown, Dupont Circle and Downtown make the neighborhood attractive.

West End

Just north of Foggy Bottom is another dynamic neighborhood of the District. The West End, with its very specific boundaries received its name from Pierre L’Enfant himself. It is the westernmost part of his original plan for the city of Washington.

This neighborhood has seen a blitz of redevelopment over the past few decades and is now one of the most trendy (and expensive) neighborhoods to live in. It is full of townhomes and condominiums – some of the most coveted in the city. The Ritz-Carlton (and Residences) moved into the neighborhood to join the Westin and Park Hyatt, which for decades had hosted visiting diplomats and celebrities.
